Dear Members and Friends,

The Annual General Meeting of the Bristol Bordeaux Partnership will be held via a virtual  Zoom video conference on Tuesday 23rd February between 18.00 & 19.00. All current and prospective individual, family or business members are invited to attend.

The meeting will include a short talk by our guest speaker Dr Jenny Gaschke: Curator of European Art pre-1900 at Bristol Museum & Art Gallery.Dr Gaschke specialises in British and European Landscape art and has been working with Sandra Buratti Hasan (Musée des Beaux-Arts Bordeaux de Bordeaux) and Guillaume Faroult (Louvre) on the exhibition ‘Absolutely Bizarre! Les drôles d’histoires de l’école de Bristol’ since 2016.

This major exhibition of over 60 works by the Bristol School of Artists will open in Bordeaux in June 2021.

We would love to hear from anyone interested in participating. We will be asking for participants to video themselves and to send in their content digitally for editing by Zanshin Films.

We would like to invite you to the launch of the 50 Cities 50 Traces Art and Peace Exhibition. Please find the invitation attached.

Over two years ago the Mayor of Hannover asked Bristol to host the Mayors for Peace (M4P) Art Exhibition http://www.mayorsforpeace.org/english/ and finally after its global tour, the exhibition is now coming here. After Bristol the exhibition will move to the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The City of Hannover in partnership with its twin city of Hiroshima is one of the driving forces behind this exhibition. It is also important to remember that the twinning between Hannover and Bristol signed in 1947 was based on a desire for Peace and Reconciliation after the destruction of WWII.

Bristol has been a member of the M4P http://www.mayorsforpeace.org/english/ network since the 1980s and Mayor Rees has given this exhibition his full support. The Bristol Hannover Council is the lead partner on the project and financial support has come from the Southall and Taylor Quaker Trusts. The Bristol Quaker Peace and Justice Committee has also been very supportive of this initiative. The exhibition has been curated by Sarah Knight in collaboration with Raimund Menges.

There will be a series of free lunchtime talks on weekdays at 12:30 during the exhibition’s stay in the Vestibules Gallery in City Hall and details of these will be on the Vestibules Whats On pages  https://theislandbristol.com/events/list/

We’ve teamed up with 5th generation family wine merchants Averys to organise an exclusive evening celebrating Bordeaux wine. Host Mimi Avery will talk about the family’s long-standing Bordeaux connections and guide us through some specially selected Bordeaux wines.

There will also be contributions from wine experts from the Bristol Commanderie de Bordeaux, including reports of the new wine museum at Bordeaux, as well as the chance to meet Partnership members and hear updates on Bristol Bordeaux Partnership activities and other initiatives.

Tickets £15 –  includes 3 glasses of wine and free raffle ticket with the chance to win a special bottle of Bordeaux wine, as well as the opportunity to stock up for Christmas with 10% discount on all Bordeaux wines.  We will also be offering a reduction on next year’s BBP membership.
